Glinda the Good Witch

My friend Emily in Rochester gave us the McDonald's Madame Alexander dolls Wizard of Oz collection a few weeks ago. I think they were intended to be for Ariel to play with when she got a little older. Well, my boys played with them the entire 3 hour drive home from Emily's house. Lucas still plays with the dolls on a daily basis. This got me thinking it would be fun to have the Marion family dress up in the theme of the Wizard of Oz. Ariel could be a little Dorthy, I could be the Wicked Witch, Isaac wants to be the Tin Man, Mike the Scarecrow, and I was thinking Lucas would enjoy being the Lion. Boy, was I wrong. Lucas insists on being Glinda the Good Witch. We have now talked about it a hundred times. Mike and I told Lucas that the Lion could have a magic wand like just like Glinda. He wasn't having it.

It seems kinda wrong for a mom to dress her little boy out as a beautiful queen/fairy/goddess or whatever she is and have him trick or treating. Today he wants me stop what I am doing and make his Glinda costume.

Maybe Lucas made too many trips to the 'Village while you guys were in NYC. Things areprobably a lot different in Marshfield.
Although, if anyone could whip up a gorgeous Glinda costume, it would be Lisa. Lucas, with hi lon eyelashes and cute face, really would look quite fabulous!

I'm cool with Lucas being Glinda.
Girls can be pirates, so, boys can be queens/fairies/goddesses right? (:
It just makes for a great story when he is older. I still haven't lived down the fact that I got Owen a rainbow cake for his 1'st birthday. I was thinking cheery and cute for a baby, Brian was thinking something else.

I also think you could make a gorgeous costume!

Haha! Oh Lisa, what a dilema! It is one thing when they want to wear the princess dress ups in the house (which Benny has admittedly adorned an afternoon or two) But to have them dress up that way for Halloween? Keep us posted on the outcome!

Lucas is too tender hearted to want to be a lion. What he doesn't realize is that the lion in the Wizard of Oz is almost as tender hearted as Lucas is. If you talk him out of being Glinda, his next character of choice is likely to be Dora. Rent the Wizard of Oz movie and see if he would like to be a Lollipop Kid. Sweetness and kindness are not bad attributes to encourage in a big bruiser like Lucas.
