    The hill behind the house

Towards the end of February, the boys were in the back yard playing in the snow. Ariel wanted to join them. Isaac put Ariel on a sled and pulled her a 150 yards to the hill beyond our backyard. (Click on photo to bring it into focus.)

When they did not return, Mike, Elsie and I went looking for them. We saw plenty of evidence that they were around, such as sled and feet tracks.
They had decided to go sledding down this very steep, high hill. The terrain on the hill makes you feel as if you are on another planet - it's the perfect destination for fertile imaginations. I was surprised that Ariel was able to climb up such a steep icy vertical. This is Isaac climbing back up the hill after sliding down the chute on his bottom.
Of course, Lucas had to try it too.
I was teasing the kids that they left their brains back at home when they went out sledding. They were sliding right into this mud puddle. Lucas' coat, pants, boots, gloves, and half of his t-shirt were soaking wet. Did I mention that it was very cold?
There are no photos of me chasing/reaching after Ariel as she decided to do a kamikaze slide down the hill. It was like Jack and Jill. Ariel fell down and broke her crown and Elsie and I came tumbling after. Fortunately, no one needed medical attention.

    10 on Thursday

I like the idea of having this list in my record. There are a few kid-friendly attractions around here where we could take some visiting tourists.

    1. scrap metal sculpture park
    2. drive-thru zoo
    3. record-setting large barn
    4. natural habitat marsh
    5. botanical gardens
    6. dairy with fresh milk, cheese curds & ice cream
    7. Amish Farmer's Market
    8. Old Dairy Plant restaurant
    9. Clinic -the latest in medical research & cutting edge digital record system
    10. The Supper Club - Supper clubs in the US were established in Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Michigan in the '30s and '40s on the edge of town in rural areas. Patrons would go to spend the whole evening with dinner and a floor show. They feature "simple" menus of American cuisine (AKA disgustingly bland food). An "all you can eat" Friday fish fry is particularly common at supper clubs in Wisconsin. (courtesy of wikipedia)
