When I was little, my ski instructor was a proficient yodeler. He said the key to yodeling was to have a wet mouth. Each time we got on the lift, he would hand us little Jolly Rancher candies to "wet our whistle." We were to practice yodeling on our way up the mountain on the chair lift. I never learned to yodel but I sure loved that candy. It kept me motivated for every new run and helped with my energy level too. Not to mention, my instructor's cheerfulness made skiing fun and went a long way to helping me fall in love with the sport. I have passed this trick on to my kids. Not the yodeling, but eating candy on the chair lift. This little trick helps keep my kids' blood sugar levels up, and their morale. When they are hungry, they have a bad attitude and no energy. The best kinds of sweets to take are the little ones that do not require much effort to get into your mouth. It is a tradition now and my kids are always excited to see what candy I bought. I have to admit that I look forward to it as much as they do.
