Towards the end of February, the boys were in the back yard playing in the snow. Ariel wanted to join them. Isaac put Ariel on a sled and pulled her a 150 yards to the hill beyond our backyard. (Click on photo to bring it into focus.) When they did not return, Mike, Elsie and I went looking for them. We saw plenty of evidence that they were around, such as sled and feet tracks.
They had decided to go sledding down this very steep, high hill. The terrain on the hill makes you feel as if you are on another planet - it's the perfect destination for fertile imaginations. I was surprised that Ariel was able to climb up such a steep icy vertical.
This is Isaac climbing back up the hill after sliding down the chute on his bottom.
Of course, Lucas had to try it too.
I was teasing the kids that they left their brains back at home when they went out sledding. They were sliding right into this mud puddle.
Lucas' coat, pants, boots, gloves, and half of his t-shirt were soaking wet.
Did I mention that it was very cold?
There are no photos of me chasing/reaching after Ariel as she decided to do a kamikaze slide down the hill. It was like Jack and Jill. Ariel fell down and broke her crown and Elsie and I came tumbling after.
Fortunately, no one needed medical attention.

It looks like you are enjoying a nice long winter there in Wisconsin. The pictures clearly evidence the kids are ninks! You tell them if I were there, I would spank all their little butts. I don't know why you would question Ariel's ability to climb anything. And Lucas, that boy can't go for long without changing his clothes. They take after their parents.
Seeing what you all do makes me tired.
Lucas is hilarious. He looks so happy with his coat around his waist, never zipped up. He might stay warm if he was zipped up, but he doesn't seem to care. Sounds like some of my kids, too cool for a coat. Love how they venture off to explore. A fond memory I have as a youth.
I love this adventure...and how impervious to cold your kids are!
I love your facial expression. You look thrilled! Your kids are creative and super tough. They're awesome!
You should move back to civilization, and leave all your back country adventures in the back country.
Just kidding. Your kids will remember these things for the rest of their lives. And you'll win all sorts of 'mother of the year' awards for letting them be such free spirits out there in the wilderness! Enjoy it while you can!
