Grandpa's visit

Grandpa treats the kids to the "courtesy" cups of root beer at A&W.

Grandpa made a special delivery of some books from Grandma for the kids.
Grandpa's first experience with a rope tow.

It was a fun family outting.

The rest of the story: I think it is worth telling. Mike and Lisa had the wrong departure time and didn't leave Vail, CO in time to make their scheduled flight. They listed as standby for the next flight to Chicago, but only Mike made it. (He had to make his shift.) Lisa was left in Denver with the 3 kids to try to get on subsequent flights. (The stress and fatigue aggravated her nausea and vomiting to an extreme.) She finally got on the last flight out that day but the connection in Chicago on to Wisconsin was going to be tight. Her dad called ahead to inform the gate agent that a pregnant woman and 3 small children would be dashing from one gate to another and to be on the look-out. (Have you ever tried getting from one terminal to another at O'Hare? Bad, at the best of times.) An airport attendant had 2 wheelchairs waiting when Lisa arrived (what were they thinking?!!) so Lisa and the attendant ran to the next terminal, pushing the 2 youngest children in the wheelchairs. (Wish I had a photo of that.) But no one told the gate agent at the departing flight they were on the way and since all confirmed passengers were on board, she closed the flight 10 minutes early and Lisa had to spend the night in Chicago. (Gasp!) By the time she got the kids to bed at a hotel, she had two hours sleep, then was back at the airport to list for standby flights. They made it home the next day and she said their time in Vail was so incredible that she is willing to suppress the memory of the trip home. Way to be a pioneer, Lisa!
